Vidiksis will perform a remix of electroacoustic pioneer John Chowning’s iconic work, _Stria, _for solo percussion and
quadraphonic sound. Celebrate the launch of <fidget>’s 2014-2015 season! Mix and mingle with Artists in Residence, Adam Vidiksis and Melissa Krodman
The creative jumping point for this program springs from Vidiksis’s recent research on the work on the imminent electronic music pioneer, John Chowning. His iconic work, _Stria _(1977), was originally composed in MUS10, a programming language now defunct. The functionality of the original code was almost lost to time, but thanks to the excellent work of Kevin Dahan of the Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, the code was ported to Csound, a language still commonly used. Vidiksis was tasked with recomposing the work, altering and reworking the source code itself, and the product was presented to Chowning in a concert in Boston last fall. Vidiksis will continue this research and compositional study during his residency at <fidget>, exploring other works by Chowning, as well as the work of electroacoustic composer Jean-Claude Risset.
