Up-and-coming woodwind quintet, Federal Winds, is Philadelphia’s newest chamber ensemble. Federal Winds looks to continue the tradition of classical music performance through new settings and engaging younger audiences. Founded in the heart of the city, this South Philly quintet is bringing classical music to the streets of Philadelphia and can be heard giving concerts in people’s homes, at garden parties, in parks, art studios, recital halls and on the stage. They believe in the future of live classical music, and bring dynamic and captivating performances of traditional repertoire to each new audience.
Ensemble members Katie Ambacher, Meghan Kimball, Debbie Larsen, Nora McDonnell, and Michael Stiles, are some of the city’s most sought-after teaching artists, providing music education through programs at Title 1 schools, after-school el Sistema programs, and private studios. Their first-hand experiences in these roles allow them to directly see the impact of music education in children’s lives. The members of this quintet earnestly seek out opportunities to connect with audiences of a variety of ages and backgrounds, both on and off the stage, with the hope to enhance musical experiences for all.
